2024: a year full of new features, manufacturer partnerships, Smart Products and more.

2024 has been an enormous year for us here at Scannable!

It’s been a year full of new features, manufacturer partnerships who have released some seriously cool Smart Products to the market, new NFC tags, we had feet on the ground at some epic events across the globe, and our safety equipment database more than doubled in size from 22,000 to over 50,000 items.

We also celebrated the first anniversary of Scannable Pro. One year! We can hardly believe it.

Join us as we take a look back at the year that was, and we’ll give you a sneak peek of what’s in store for 2025.

Feature releases

We added some awesome (and incredibly helpful) features to the app:

Multi-scan

Multi-scan lets you scan multiple items of equipment using the camera and NFC, creating a list of items that you can then process in bulk—recording inspection results, for example.

Thorough Examinations

We made inspections a whole lot better for you!

With Thorough Examinations, you can

  • Inspect equipment as part of a Thorough Examination
  • Assign a job number
  • Set a Working Load Limit (for you LOLER folk)
  • Download a Certificate of Thorough Examination including legal declaration, signature of the competent person, customer's address, and address of the person issuing the report
  • Maintain a list of all LOLER / Inspection certificates in one place
Check-off

If you have equipment assigned to a kit bag, vehicle, or another group, you can use check off to quickly check if everything that should be in the bag/vehicle etc is actually where it should be.

Checklists

Checklists are available when you’re recording inspections and make it easy for you to follow the required steps to inspect your equipment properly.

You can select from manufacturer’s checklists, or create your own checklists in the web app (app.scannable.io).

Push Notifications

We added the push notifications feature to help you never miss an important date…

Get push notifications for:

  • items with inspection due in the next 30 days, and
  • items with their lifetime expiring in the next 30 days
  • with more notifications to come.
Knowledge Base

We launched our Knowledge Base in May, and it’s recently had an upgrade.

It’s your go-to place for Scannable how-to’s and FAQ’s from getting started with Scannable, adding inventory, and creating teams, to printing thorough examination reports, sharing a group’s equipment list, and creating inspection checklists. Go check it out: https://support.scannable.io/

We had a blast getting to chat with so many of you at shows around the globe.

We got to meet so many of you at various shows, competitions and conferences throughout the year. We went to:

  • SPRAT Conference
  • STAC Conference and Exhibition
  • Deutsche Baumpflegetage Augsburg
  • GRIMPDAY
  • Vertical Connect
  • Trees & Utilities
  • TCI Expo

You'll find us at a bunch more shows in 2025.

We love meeting you and getting to know the challenges you face with safety and compliance in your day-to-day. If you see us, come say hi!

Powered by Scannable: Epic Brands and Smart Products

We see a world where data and safety are connected: every item of equipment is connected to its specifications and data, streamlining the management of equipment throughout its lifetime. 2024 has seen us well on our way to realising this connected vision.

We believe that making equipment management easy-yet-comprehensive starts by working with the brands and manufacturers to make safety equipment ‘Smart’—before it even leaves the factory.

Smart Products are products that have been Scannable-enabled at manufacture.

It means you get up-to-date equipment information and data—at the tap or scan of a phone.

Just tap the NFC or scan the QR or data matrix code and add the item to your inventory - all of the item’s specs are loaded by the manufacturer and connected to the product before it makes its way to you, meaning you get to save time and data entry headaches when you choose a Smart Products.

After Never Let Go launched their Scannable-enabled Smart Products in August 2023, many exciting brands have adopted the connected vision. In 2024, we’ve launched partnerships with these incredible brands:

STREP have been making amazing rope pro for a while, and we helped them take their industry-leading products to the next level by connecting their product information with Scannable and embedding NFC tags in their products.

CMI are adding Scannable NFC tags to their sewn products initially (slings and runners with sewn-in NFC tags - how good!!), with hard goods following in the coming months.

Beal has a history of dedication to innovation and technical advances. Beal started with ropes, with their first dedicated work at height rope released in 1993.

Staying true to their roots, Beal are launching Smart Ropes initially, with the remainder of their product range to follow.

Clogger garments protect thousands of professional arborists and tree workers around the world on a daily basis.

The new Clogger Zero Ultra pant range has Scannable NFC tags sewn in at manufacture with all the specs and documents available at the tap of a phone, making managing your PPE across its lifetime a breeze.

Equipment Resellers

Plus, we added a bunch of resellers like Honey Brothers, Hexarope and Arbo Space to our already existing network including Maple Leaf Ropes, Redwing Rigging Supplies, Condor Safety, LRV8, and Novafor who are offering their spliced ropes and terminations as Scannable-enabled Smart Products as well as our NFC tags so that you can retrofit your existing inventory.

For a full list of the brands that we’re partnering with, check out Smart Products

Using Scannable means you don’t have to choose one brand for your equipment needs.

You can buy any manufacturer’s equipment (Smart Product or not) and still have a system that interacts with that equipment.

We believe it makes sense to have one app for all of the equipment you use, no matter who made it.

NFC Tag Releases

Carabiner and Hardware Tag

The Gen-1 I-Beam Tag was awesome! At the time, it was the world’s smallest NFC tag, and we’re still very proud of that tag.

But it wasn’t perfect, so we returned to the drawing board and made Gen-2.

The Gen-2 Carabiner and Hardware Tag is:

  • 30% smaller in volume
  • Sits flush or below the surface of most carabiner recesses
  • 10% easier to scan

We’re stoked about this tag and hope you like it as much as we do!

The Squircle

We also updated our on-metal, self-adhesive NFC tag sticker, the ‘Squircle’.

Not quite a circle, not quite a square, the tag has been redesigned and is an improvement on the first on-metal sticker we released to market.

It is now much more durable to impact thanks to an epoxy dome protecting the NFC chip, improved adhesive layers, and a more robust top layer. And as of our last delivery, is now 14x14mm, 33% smaller than our 17x17mm version!

Rope Tag

This one was a biggie (or a smallie!) and we saw a lot of excitement from you about this tag!

The NFC tag designed to go inside your ropes.

While manufacturers and retailers need to use rope labels to comply with standards, unfortunately the labels aren’t forever.

The Rope Tag allows you to replace traditional rope labels with an NFC tag that can go into the tail of your rope.

We’re also working with rope manufacturers to approve them for use inside the splice - watch this space.

And more coming in 2025...

Look out for our next NFC tag soon to be released, designed as the perfect solution for round-bar carabiners. Coming soon!

Global domination!

We kid! But only a little….

We were over the moon to make our first international hire in November, with Guy Hobson joining the team. A kiwi based in London, Guy joins the team as Senior Account Executive.

He loves a good story of Kiwi’s punching above their weight and taking things global, and sees this in Scannable with the outsized problem that we're solving with our easy-to-use solution.

Watch this space as we continue to expand our team in 2025.

What else is coming up for 2025?

We’re not stopping with our manufacturer partnerships any time soon. In fact, we’ve only just begun! Here’s a sneak peek of who you can expect to see launching Smart Products in the near future…

  • Edelrid
  • Teufelberger
  • Singing Rock
  • BlueWater Ropes
  • Nodus Factory
  • and many more

We have a whole new slew of features in the works to level up your Scannable experience including offline mode, multiple inspection frequencies, the ability to record equipment usage, and that’s just the first few months…

Keep an eye out on our release log, and make sure you keep your app updated!

We hope you’re all loving what Scannable has brought to the world this year, and we’re looking forward to continuing to update and improve in 2025.

If you ever have any feedback, feature suggestions, or just want to shoot the shit with someone who’s as nerdy about equipment as you, feel free to fire an email to support@scannable.io or jump on chat on our website. Hearing from you guys really makes our days.

If you’ve been thinking about coming onboard Scannable but have some questions or just want a guided tour of the platform and its capabilities, jump on this link to book a call with our team.

Thanks for coming on this journey. We’re doing this for you and with you, and you’re what makes it all worth it. This community is the best.

Stay safe out there, happy holidays, and here’s to a kick-arse 2025!
