Edelrid was founded in 1863, starting life as a braid and cord factory and eventually developing the first kernmantle rope for mountain sports. This was followed by the first dynamic rope, chest harness, and sewn quickdraw sling.
Along the way, the Edelrid factory burned down twice - once in 1959, and again in 1973. This didn’t stop the company from forging ahead and continuing to innovate, being first to market with many now-commonplace products used in the vertical world.
In 2009, Edelrid became the first rope manufacturer to meet the bluesign® environment standard. Producing several million meters of climbing rope each year, Edelrid is keenly aware of their environmental impact and responsibilities and has taken extensive measures toward environmental management and climate protection.
With Scannable, Edelrid continues its innovative approach to safety equipment, and adds another feather to its environmentally conscious hat by helping equipment users maintain traceability of equipment across its lifecycle and ultimately keeping it out of the landfill.
